I have started with the m1/2 and m3/4. During that time while doing jump and planet tests I have rolled below 10 a few times. Since these are int tests does that constitute a pip on the experience track. Same for mining. And water collecting and other non skill specific tests?

Yes all tests where you roll 10 or less will earn an experience pip.
