I've got the book on order, so the answer may be obvious if I have the book, but the videos I've been watching show a lot of things like Int +/- CM. Are you supposed to add the CM to intelligence or subtract it? So if your intelligence is 40 and your CM is 20, are you trying to roll below 20 or below 60?

Hi tcsimon58. The CM is applied to Int for the skill test before rolling. The CM could either be a plus or a minus depending on the ship's tech level and the captain's INT. When you receive the book, you will get the idea of how the control modifier works better. Welcome on board with D100 Space and thank you for your support.

I received the book and I've been going through the first couple of tutorial missions, but I wonder if I've got my stats right. I put 50 in intelligence (40 in dex, 30 in str) and then selected Techno for my captain's career, which added +10 to int, giving 60. The current TL on my ship is 20 (original 10 + upgrades from the second operation). This gives a CM of 60-20=40. When I'm traveling (both within a system and between systems) my test is Int+CM=100. Which means every bit of travel succeeds. Is that right??

You have the rules correct. Space traveling is meant to be unhindered the majority of the time (like driving a car). For other career paths and races the test will be slightly tougher. However, for your captain, you have an excellent ability to perform space and ship related tasks. The captain build you have, will mean you will be able to upgrade to a larger space ship sooner. Still make the rolls as a result of 100 is an auto fail.
